Frequently Asked Questions

How long will it take to train my dog?

This depends on what you want to accomplish. For mastery of basic commands, I recommend 7 one-hour lessons — one hour per week, for 7 weeks. After 7 weeks, you can continue to intermediate training if you choose to.

At what age can I start to train my dog?

Whenever you want — there is no minimum age. I recommend that you start to train your puppy as soon as possible, before it takes on bad habits. Most of the puppies I see tend to be around 8 weeks.

Is my dog too old to be trained?

No. The old saying, “You can’t teach an old dog new tricks” isn’t true. Any age dog can learn new things.

Where do I have to go for training lessons?

Nowhere! Manners for Mutts will hold lessons at your home.

Do I need to get a crate for my puppy?

Yes. Crate training is the golden rule in owning and raising a puppy. But be sure to get the correct size. For more information about crate size, email greg@mannersformutts.net.

How much does dog training cost?

This depends on what you want to accomplish and how far you want to go with training.
